Human beings are social entities. Our lives are mostly centered around our households. Welfare of the households ensures welfare of the nation. Orthodox lifestyle of oriental culture divides the span of human life into four stages known as student life, householder life , retired life and renounced life. A householder alone provides the support to all the other three stages of human lives. Therefore, a happy home is the basis of happy society. Every member of the house should contribute to the healthy maintenance of his own house as well as towards the peaceful c-existence with all the neighbours.
A virtuous and righteous home alone is the happy home. The following description presents the sketch of a happy home.
The worthy residence of pious householders is a constant shelter for joyous and auspicious festivities. Here the children are well disciplined, educated and obedient to the parents. The housewife is regardful to all with sweet words and friendly behaviour. The householder is always associated with honest friends and worthy relatives. He earns the livelihood with righteous means. He has excellent marital relationship with his own chaste wife, by treating all other women equal to his mother. Their servants are obedient and sincere. Worship of God and hospitality to guests are their regular features. Such a peaceful and prosperous household is equivalent to heaven. In contrast to this happy home, a house with crying children, dusty rooms, dirty surroundings, filled with insects and mosquitoes , harsh house wife, serving unhygienic food, angry house-holder, all kinds of pollutions, lack of minimum necessities, all these conditions indicate a hellish house full of agony.
A householder should earn livelihood, only through lawful means by avoiding corruption and misappropriation. Spiritual discussions and discourses should be regularly held in the residence. Worthy guests should be respectfully treated and scriptural study should always take place in the noble household. Further all the members of the house should be truthful, friendly and honest. The inmates of such a virtuous house are entitled to achieve a permanent well-being.
The houses where noble souls are not honored, where Vedic verses and devotional hymns are not heard, where the sacrificial rites and deity worship are not conducted, such places are comparable to burial grounds. The houses where no cows are maintained, no children are seen, elders are not honored such houses are just like jungles.
